The Ecological Solid Waste Management Act (Republic Act 9003) of 2000 provides the legal framework for promoting the systematic, comprehensive, and ecological measures for waste avoidance, reduction, reuse, recycling, and disposal of solid waste to protect public health and the environment.
Finding a suitable site for Sanitary Landfill (SLF) is found to be challenging for the majority of Local Government Units (LGUs). The increasing waste generation per household per day demands the adoption of appropriate SLF technologies. Furthermore, waste contributes to Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in the atmosphere.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Environmental Management Bureau (DENR - EMB) tasked CELPA, Inc. to conduct a thorough assessment of the four identified sites within the Caraga Region. These sites are located in Lanuza and San Agustin, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat in the Province of Dinagat Islands, and Veurela in Agusan del Sur.
